Intro:

The beginning of a new decade seemed like a good time to give this a try. I don't know if anyone will really care or not, but I'm gonna have fun doing it and that's all that matters.

Epicness...

Today's theme, boys and girls, is epicness. Things so truly awesome that they stand out in a crowd. There may be more posts on this topic to come, but for now, we will talk about today's Chargers game and key changes. Read on...it's gonna be epic...

What a game! So, the Chargers were in great form today. Talk about an epic win. 41-10 and that lone touchdown against was on a fumble return; the defense only gave up a field goal. Nice. Speaking of defense, Shaun Phillips...wow...6 tackles, 4 sacks, and 1 interception for a touchdown. Phenomenal. Can't forget the offense, though. Philip Rivers: QB rating 146.7, 16 for 21, 249 passing, 2 TDs, no int. Antonio Gates: targeted 7 times, 7 receptions, 144 yds, 2 TDs, broke 500 career receptions. The beast, though...Mike Tolbert: 16 carries for 100 yds (6.3yd average), 1 TD, 2 receptions for 3 yds. Not as good as Gates, you say? Remember, Tolbert was signed as a fullback. As long as we keep that momentum going next week. Keep the streak against the Raiders going.

Keeping with the theme of epicness...key changes. I love a great key change, probably even more than I love tight harmonies, counter-point, or a capella sections. It's close, but a good key change can send chills through you. I was thinking about it last night and I could only think of two of my favorite key changes off the top of my head.
1) Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, track 5 off The Black Parade (2006). The build between the melody line and the guitar along with the drums coming in right at the change makes this awesome. (Start at 3:32. The key change starts at 3:50)
2) Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, track 3 off Slippery When Wet (1986). It's a pivot note, as opposed to a pivot chord, key change and the slide in Bon Jovi's voice and the drums hitting on the quarter note triplet all combine to add to the power of this key change. (Start at 3:15. The key change comes at 3:24)

I'd love to hear any key changes that you love, so let me know! I'm always glad to hear from you.

Till next time...
